Chennai International Airport - Train
There is no direct connection by train from the Airport to the city centre, since the Central Railway Station is located at 25 kilometers.
How to reach the nearest railway station?
- Suburban railway
You can try to ride a suburban railway, since the nearest suburban railway station is Tirusulam Station, which is at 2 km from the airport. Ride Chennai Beach Local line and get to Park Railway Station at the city center of Chennai and then from there ride another railway line to reach Chennai Central Railway Station.
Frequency: Every 20 to 40 minutes from early morning until late evening. The trip is about 30 minutes. The frequency of the railway line to Chennai Central Railway Station is of 15 to 20 minutes. Total travel time is of 1.30 to 2 h.
Outside the Terminal building, you can take AC buses which will get you to the Central Station, such as 1B bus line. Otherwise, you can walk to GST road, from where you will be able to ride regular buses at GST road bus stand. Frequency: Every 5 minutes.
You can reach the station by taking a pre-paid taxi and get to the city center within 1.20 h. Otherwise you can ride a regular taxi.
Rickshaw can be a great option to get to the Central Railway Station. Find them outside Terminals, just opposite the exit gate of Domestic Terminal.
- Car sharing
To get better prices, you can try apps such as Uber or the local car sharing app Ola, which will let you share your ride with other passengers
